It is known that volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and carbon dioxide (CO.sub.2) must be removed from a gas mixture containing VOCs and CO.sub.2 before the gas can be vented to the atmosphere. The gas stream from a manufacturing facility is usually a mixture of VOCs and CO.sub.2. VOCs are toxic and, therefore, it is necessary to provide a method of removing VOCs and CO.sub.2 from a gas before it is vented to the atmosphere. VOCs can be removed from the gas stream by combustion or by adsorption on a sorbent material. Various conventional approaches for removing VOCs and CO.sub.2 from a gas mixture are well known in the art and include the use of chemical additives to the gas, or, alternatively, the use of catalysts for removing the VOCs from the gas stream. The present invention provides a process for the removal of VOCs and CO.sub.2 from a gas mixture using an adsorption medium. When a sorbent material is used to remove VOCs and CO.sub.2 from a gas mixture, a material must be selected to provide maximum mass transfer. It is known that the mass transfer rate of a given material is related to its adsorption capacity. Thus, materials with a higher adsorption capacity are typically used. A material with a high adsorption capacity for VOCs and CO.sub.2 is most commonly a solid, either a powder or a pellet. The invention also provides a method for the removal of VOCs and CO.sub.2 from a gas mixture using an adsorption medium. It is known in the prior art to remove volatile organic compounds from a gas mixture using adsorption media. For example, U.S. Pat. No. 3,941,732 discloses a method for removing organic vapors from a gas stream containing vapor, using an adsorption bed. U.S. Pat. No. 4,028
